Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a tooth shaped “cap” that is placed on top of a damaged or defective tooth. Dental Crowns can be made of metal, porcelain, resin or ceramic. Porcelain and ceramic crowns look and feel like your natural teeth. In addition, a porcelain fused-with-metal crown will allow for both strength and cosmetic appeal, making it a good choice. Metal crowns are even stronger and rarely chip or break, offering the longest wear. They may be the best solution for back teeth.
Reasons for Crowns:
- Restore a Broken or Fractured Tooth
- Protect a Weak Tooth from Fracturing
- Cosmetic Enhancement for misshapen or discolored tooth
- Decayed Teeth
- Fractured or Large Fillings
- Support a Tooth after a Root Canal
- Improve the Aesthetics of your Smile
What to Expect
A crown usually requires two dental appointments. First, the tooth must be shaped so that that crown will fit over the tooth comfortably. Next, scans must be taken to create a perfect fit. Dr. Kiessling will provide you with guidance in the best material to create your crown. If porcelain is to be used, we will determine the shade to match your existing teeth. A temporary crown will be put in place until the permanent crown is created. Finally, the new permanent crown is secured in place.
Kiessling Family Dental is equipped with the latest technology. With the use of the iTero Scanner, there’s no more “goo” in the mouth to create impressions of crowns, bridges or night guards. The iTero scanner takes a completely digital image of your mouth and teeth using a camera. This method is time saving, comfortable and helps assure a precise fit.
