Dental Bridges
A fixed dental bridge is a non-removable false tooth known as a pontic. The pontic is connected to crowns on each side of the false tooth.
Benefits to a Dental Bridge
- Improves confidence
- Provides a more even and secure biting surface
- Prevents remaining teeth from shifting
- Allows for proper chewing
- Reduces the risk of bone loss
- Permanently fixed to prevent shifting
Types of Bridges:
A Traditional Bridge is crafted with porcelain fused to metal or ceramic. Two crowns cemented to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth support the pontic in between.
A Cantilever Bridge only impacts one of the adjacent teeth next to the missing tooth. These are commonly used in areas with less stress such as the front of the mouth.
A Resin Bonded Bridge (also known as a Maryland Bridge) is used when the gums are healthy, and the surrounding teeth are strong and free of restorations. This type of bridge results in less damage to adjacent teeth.
